Ford Motor (NYSE: F) Wants a New Trial After $1.7 Billion Jury Verdict in a Lawsuit

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) is seeking a new trial in a Georgia court, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. The automaker is asking for a new trial after a jury gave a $1.7 billion verdict against Ford last month.

This trial was over a crash that occurred in 2014 when the automaker’s truck rolled over leaving two people dead. According to the report, the plaintiff’s family alleged that the Ford truck’s roof design was faulty and susceptible to collapse during the rollover accident.

However, in new court filings filed by Ford and cited by WSJ, the company stated that it was “unfairly precluded from providing evidence that would have demonstrated the truck involved in the fatal incident was safe and the roof structure was stronger than many of its peers.”

According to the report, citing case attorneys, the jury verdict is the highest so far in the history of Georgia.

Is Ford a Buy Stock Now?

It doesn’t look like that Ford is a Buy right now as Wall Street analysts are sidelined about the stock with a Hold consensus rating based on four Buys, nine Holds, and one Sell.

The average price forecast for Ford is $15.96 implying a 33.1% upside at current levels.
